Solnul® Reproduces Clinical Outcomes, Strengthening Confidence in the Prebiotic Ingredient's Ability to Enhance the Microbiome and Support Digestive Comfort

Canada NewsWire

New study replicates ingredient's bifidogenic effect, stool form outcomes, and tolerability.

CARBERRY, MB, Nov. 4, 2026 /CNW/ -- MSP Starch Products Inc., the innovator behind Solnul®, a leading prebiotic fiber ingredient, announces the release of its latest publication Examining the Gastrointestinal Effects of Solnul®, a Prebiotic Resistant Potato Starch: A Replication Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial in Healthy Adults in the journal Nutrients. The new Solnul® trial advances the evidence base by intentionally repeating the same dose and same protocol to achieve the same results. This doubles down on reproducibility and tolerability, and increases consumer confidence in this foundational nutrient, resistant starch.

Prebiotic Resistant Starch

About the Study
A four-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 74 healthy adults found that 3.5 g of Solnul® daily increased the relative abundance of Bifidobacterium and Akkermansia and increased the number of normal stools compared with placebo.i Participants taking Solnul® also experienced an increase in bowel movement frequency and a greater reduction in days without a bowel movement, with no effect on gastrointestinal symptoms. These findings reinforce Solnul® as a prebiotic and reproduce key microbiome outcomes, stool form benefits, and tolerability observed in the earlier study.

"While replication clinical trials are important to build confidence in the health benefits of a prebiotic, they are atypical with sequential studies often designed to answer very different questions," said Dr. Edward Deehan, Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and co-corresponding author of the publication. "That is why this replication trial with Solnul® is so unique and important, as by using the same design it confirms what health benefits are consistent and reproducible."

Meeting Expert Recommendations
The International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP) is the globally recognized organization that is defining the standards for prebiotic. ISAPP lists confirmatory evidence as the final criterion for substantiating a prebiotic.ii This gold standard level of evidence increases confidence in prebiotic outcomes and strengthens claim substantiation.

Stronger Science. Greater Consumer Confidence.
Interest in gut health is surging, and fiber is firmly in the spotlight. According to CPG Radar's 2026 Gut Health Report, Google searches for "Digestive & Gut Health" increased 23.8%, while "Fiber & Regularity" searches climbed 27%.iii Yet consumer enthusiasm comes with concerns.

Side effects and safety accounted for 95% of consumer objections identified in the report, making tolerability a clear priority.iii Consumers want confidence that a fiber product will deliver benefits and feel comfortable to take daily. For brands, the opportunity is clear: better regularity without unwanted side effects, backed by trusted science.

"We took a big risk. It worked out and I'd like to take credit for the study results, but success like this only comes when the microbiome is reunited with its favorite food, Solnul®," said Dr. Jason Bush, Chief Scientific Officer of MSP Starch Products Inc. "Credible science builds confidence. By reproducing our findings, we're giving brands a stronger foundation for their products and consumers more reason to trust Solnul® for the prebiotic outcomes and digestive comfort they're looking for."
